This collection consists of miscellaneous materials that Helen Norris Cummings and Esther Green saved in their homes, rather than the result of systematic recordkeeping. From 1915 to 1917 Cummings served as president. She remained active in the organization for approximately thirty years beyond her term in office. Green served as corresponding secretary in 1922 and also remained involved afterward. The series includes correspondence, printed material, financial documents, proceedings/meetings, club history surveys, applications for membership, artifacts, and miscellaneous papers.

Cummings resided in Alexandria from about 1894 until 1949. Daughter of Norris and Emma Ricketts Cummings of Philadelphia, she was active in community affairs, was a member and officer in the Virginia Federation of Women's Clubs, and, in 1894, founded the Cameron Club.
